The Holy Father Pope Francis has on 16 April 2016, appointed Rev. Fr. Angelo Pagano, O.F.M. Cap., as New Apostolic Vicar of Harar (Ethiopia) and assigned him the Titular See of Fico. Since his appointment Fr. Pagano was Pastor and Project Manager of the Capuchin Custody, in Cameroon.
At the same time, the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Apostolic Vicariate of Harar presented by Rt. Rev. Woldetensaé Ghebreghiorghis, O.F.M. Cap., in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Rev.
Rev. Fr. Angelo Pagano, O.F.M. Cap., was born on January 15, 1954 in Asmara (Eritrea), at the time part of Ethiopia, to Italian parents who emigrated there. In 1973, he completed his primary and secondary studies, and obtained a diploma in construction. At the age of 19, he returned with his family to Italy. On June 25, 1988 he was ordained a priest. Soon after, at his request, he was sent as a missionary to Cameroon.
Since his ordination he has served the following academic and pastoral roles: Assistant priest of Shisong Parish, in the Diocese of Kumbo (1989-1992); Pastor of the Parish community of Shisong (1992-2003); President of the Conference of the Capuchins of Western Africa (1988-2000); the Capuchin Delegation of Cameroon is promoted to Custody and he became the First Guardian (1993-2000); member of the Council of Priests of the Diocese of Kumbo (1996-2003); Vice-Provincial of the Capuchin Vice-Province in Ethiopia (2003-2009); Superior of the Capuchin Custody of Yaoundé, in Cameroon (2009-2014).
