
Archbishop Martin Kivuva of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa, together with students from Loreto Convent Mombasa planted 1000 trees at the Loreto grounds to mark the school’s Environment Day on 4th April, 2016.
Speaking at the event, Archbishop Kivuva said “In the book of Genesis, God created human beings and told them to be caretakers of creation. Pope Francis always reminds us to care for the environment.”
The head teacher of Loreto Convent, Sr. Gertrude Mallya IBVM said that the new forest will be named ‘Pope Francis Forest’ – in honour of the Holy Father, Pope Francis who showed a deep desire to see that God’s creation is taken care of and has a great affection for the environment.
Together with Archbishop Kivuva, the event also attracted staff and students of the school who spent their time planting trees all-round the school.
Samaritan’s Purse, a humanitarian aid organization donated the trees.
