AMECEA: Secretary General Pledges Commitment to Synodal Journey in the New Year

At the commencement of the New Year 2022, Secretary General of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa (AMECEA) Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Makunde has promised continued commitment and full participate of the region in the fourth coming Synod of Bishops anticipated for 2023.

“We commit ourselves to actively engage in the Synodal journey to make the African voice heard,” Fr. Makunde said in his New Year message on Friday, January 7, assuring that the region hopes to move together towards a successful realization of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of Bishops’ Synod.

Fr. Makunde had earlier asked the “National and Diocesan Coordinators to collaborate and come up with an action plan that will help in making a follow-up on diocesan level to ensure all local churches are moving together as far as the time frame of the Synodal processes is concerned and that activities are conducted as required…. urging them to work within the stipulated time.”

Cognizant of the challenges facing the Church and the society at large, Fr Makunde thanks God for the achievements registered in the previous year despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We join the entire world in prayers for a lasting solution to Covid-19 and we dare to continue, with hope, the preparations for the 20th Plenary Assembly,” the Secretary General said in reference to the upcoming Plenary of the AMECEA bishops slated for July 2022, and which was already launched last year November in Tanzania.

“We extend our best wishes and blessings of New Year to the entire AMECEA region, Institutions Secretariat, the bishops, Secretaries General and partners,” Fr. Makunde in his message shared with AMECEA Online on January 7, 2022, appreciating the support of all actors within the region and “thanking God for the gift of the New Year 2022.”
