Catholic Bishop of Kenya’s Archdiocese of Nairobi seeks to sought for humanitarian assistance for vulnerable families experiencing the hard-hit of the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic and are grappling with its effects.
In a letter addressed to the clergy, Religious and people of good will in the Archdiocese, the Apostolic Administrator Rt. Rev. David Kamau noted that, “Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted normalcy globally and locally, exposing families to extreme pressure and straining their capacity to sustain themselves.”
“I appeal to all parishes, Religious communities, institutions and people of good will to donate generously both in cash and in kind towards this very noble goal,” Bishop Kamau who is the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Nairobi noted in his request letter.
He appreciated the continued help from the faithful and well-wishers whenever they are called upon to support saying, “I express my gratitude for the continued support you have accorded the Archdiocese of Nairobi over the years especially our humanitarian efforts during emergencies. Indeed your acts of generosity has been a true sign of solidarity.”
Emphasizing on the need for humanitarian aid in relation to the many families affected not only in the Archdiocese of Nairobi but also in other parts of the country, Bishop Kamau recalls President Uhuru Kenyatta’s message on Wednesday, September 8, when he declared the ongoing drought affecting northern part of the country a national disaster and appealed for well-wisher’s support.
“At least 2 Million Kenyans have been hard hit by the current drought with predictions that the dry spell will worsen in the coming weeks,” Bishop Kamau highlights adding that based on the situation in the country, “the Archdiocese continues to bear the pressure as more people knock at the door seeking support.”
“We endeavor to extend a helping hand, to be a sign of hope to families grappling with the effects of the pandemic in the drought in the different parts of the Archdiocese and beyond as part of our call to Christian charity and evangelization,” the Prelate disclosed.
The monetary support can be advanced through a special account Caritas Nairobi Relief Fund at Caritas Microfinance Bank or even via M-Pesa.
