MALAWI: Children in Dedza Diocese Embrace Laudato Si Message

Holy Childhood members at Tsangano St. Teresa Parish have been encouraged to continue planting trees and take care of them as one way of implementing Laudato Si and make the earth a good home for all.

The Children have been encouraged during a monitoring visit by the PMS Malawi National Director Fr. Vincent Mwakhwawa and Diocesan Director of PMS – Dedza, Fr. Peter Madeya.

The two visited Tsangano Parish to appreciate the project of tree planting that was done in 2019 during the Missionary Day for the children of the Diocese of Dedza. The National Director observed that the trees are growing well and are being taken care of by the children themselves, through the guidance and supervision of the parish priest, Fr. Abraham Paul.

“I am very impressed by the progress. In this, I see the dream of the Holy Father of taking care of the eco-system being realized. Moreover, the children are growing with a sense of ecological-spirituality. I thank the PMS Director and the Parish Priest, Fr. Abraham Paul for implementing this Holy Childhood project here at Tsangano and for their passion in encouraging the children to plant and take care of trees,” said Fr. Mwakhwawa.

The Parish Priest, Fr. Paul, has promised that this year the other new members of Holy Childhood will plant approximately 1000 trees to give the young children a chance to learn the importance of taking care of the environment through planting and caring of trees.

The children who attended the function were also given some Holy Childhood exercise books by the Diocesan PMS Director, Fr. Madeya.

The exercise books are from the Diocesan Holy Childhood school learning material project of 2021.

The monitoring visit took place on 8th and 9th August 2022.
