ZAMBIA: Fr Cleophas Lungu Bids Farewell to Catholic Secretariat

Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) former Secretary General Fr. Cleophas Lungu on Monday,26th July,2021 has bade farewell to the Catholic Secretariat staff after his working contract came to an end month-end of June,2021.

The Bishops Conference is yet to appoint someone to take over from Fr. Lungu as occasioned by the demise of Fr. Kennedy Seketa who was assigned to become ZCCB new Secretary General.

On his part, Fr Lungu has thanked the Catholic Bishops of Zambia for the confidence shown in him to serve as Secretary General of the Conference.

He said that he was also grateful to the entire Catholic Secretariat Management team for working well with him to find solutions to challenges the Catholic Church in Zambia was facing to achieve its mission.

Father Lungu who disclosed that he was going back to Chipata, which is his home diocese, encouraged the Secretariat staff to work in harmony and be united.

Meanwhile Sr. Shanneta Musonda who is currently working in the Pontifical Mission Society (PMS) office is also leaving for further studies.

The Catholic Secretariat has since held a thanksgiving mass for the two, presided by the National Pastoral Coordinator Fr. Cornelius Chibamba who is the current Acting Secretary General.

Speaking in his homily, Fr. Cornelius Chibamba thanked Fr. Lungu for his work at the Catholic Secretariat.

“We are happy for serving the Church for many years. You inspired many people,” he said.
